This week only. Clean formulas, soft hands, good timing.
Candles
Our candles are made with Canadian beeswax, coconut wax and lead-free natural cotton wicks. You won’t find any other waxes or ingredients hiding in there!
Our candles are scented with either:
- A blend of premium fragrances + essential oils that are clean-burning, phthalate-free and paraben-free. Most of our scents are made this way.
- A blend of pure essential oils (our Natural Collection)
Read this blog for more details on our premium fragrances and why we don't use essential oils exclusively to scent our candles (the answer might surprise you!)
Our candles are hand blended and poured at our studio & shop in Edmonton, Alberta. Every part of the process is done by hand by our small team of women.
They’re designed to fill a room with a beautiful, inviting scent without being overpowering. We aim for balance, with a scent that feels cozy, not cloying.
Burn until the wax reaches or is close to the edge of the vessel, trim the wick between uses, and don’t burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Beeswax is quite forgiving (as compared to other waxes like soy) and will usually sort out any tunneling issues as it burns down.
Our candle jars typically burn for 45–50 hours. This can vary slightly, depending on:
- How long you burn it each time (we recommend 2.5 to 4 hours, not longer)
- How well you care for the wick (we recommend trimming it to ¼” before each burn)
- Altitude and other air conditions, such as drafts etc
Yes! Beeswax is the cleanest burning wax there is and it can even purify your air. Our candles are free from harmful ingredients like phthalates and parabens, and our wicks are lead- and zinc-free.
Just be sure to follow safe candle burning practices (find more on that here)
Reed Diffusers
Our reed diffusers and room sprays are vegan, allergen-free and zero VOC. They are made from naturally derived ingredients and are safe to use in your home.
An allergen-free, vegan and zero-VOC diffuser base oil, scented with our premium fragrance + essential oil blends for a subtle and continuous scent experience. No flames, no fuss.
All our fragrances are phthalate and paraben-free to ensure they contain no headache-inducing or toxic ingredients.
Each reed diffuser lasts typically 6 months or more, depending on room temperature, airflow, humidity and how often you flip the reeds.
We've had some customers come back to us and say theirs is still going after a year!
We don’t refill your own bottles on demand, but you can purchase our “Refill” bottles of scented oil to use with any existing reeds you may have on hand, or to decant into another diffuser vessel you have. Just select the “Refill (bottle only)” option for any reed diffuser.
Add more reeds for a stronger scent, or flip the reeds every few days. For a lighter aroma, use fewer reeds and flip less often.
Your reeds typically last 3-4 months, but they may need refreshing sooner. A good rule of thumb is to flip them every 1–2 weeks to keep the scent going, and replace them every 1–2 months if the scent starts fading even after a flip, or if they look dark, dusty, or discoloured. You’ll also want to swap in fresh reeds any time you switch to a new scent, since the old ones hold onto fragrance and the two will mix.
Signs You Need New Reeds:
- The scent is faint, even after flipping.
- The reeds are dark and fully saturated with oil.
- The reeds are dusty, dirty, or discoloured.
As one of our bestselling scents, this seems weird, right? In our testing, Lavender Unwind just didn't perform well as a reed diffuser — the scent didn't translate the way it does in the candle or essential oil blend. Our Lavender Unwind essential oil blend is better suited to ultrasonic diffusers and simply doesn't carry well through reeds.
We never want to put something out that we don't think is awesome, so we skipped this one.
Room & Linen Sprays
Our room and linen sprays use a plant-derived, readily biodegradable base with proprietary odour eliminating technology — meaning they don't just mask smells, they actually neutralize them. The formula is vegan, phthalate-free, and Prop 65 compliant. Depending on the scent, some blends contain alcohol and some don't, but all are scented with the same phthalate-free fragrance and essential oil blends we use across our home fragrance line.
We do have a couple sprays scented with only essential oils - you can find those here
Yes, they're safe to use on most fabrics including bedding, curtains, and upholstery. We'd recommend avoiding delicate materials like silk and leather, and it's important to doing a quick spot test on anything you're unsure about before going all in.
Shake gently, then spray 8–12 inches away from surfaces and away from you. A few spritzes go a long way. Use them on your bedding before sleep, on a couch throw after a long week, in a bathroom, or just into the air for an instant reset.
Please avoid pets & their bedding (their noses are much more sensitive to fragrance), and avoid inhaling before the spritz has settled.
That depends on how often you use it, but most people find a bottle lasts at least a few months with regular use. If you're the kind of person who spritzes liberally (no judgment!) you might go through it faster.
We recommend using them within 12 months of opening for the best scent experience. Stored in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunlight, they hold up well.
We did! The original formula was strong — like, one spritz in a small bathroom was likely too much. We went back to the drawing board based on that feedback, meticulously re-tested everything, and dialed the concentration down so that 2–4 sprays is the right starting point for most spaces. Same scents, just way more liveable.
They're a different kind of experience. Candles and reed diffusers create an ambient, ongoing scent in a space. A room spray is more intentional — an instant hit of scent exactly where and when you want it. A lot of our customers use all three together depending on the moment.

Our Giveback
Yes, every purchase truly helps! Every home fragrance product we make ourselves in house, like our candles, reed diffusers, room sprays, and essential oil blends, contribute directly to our giveback by funding one month of health insurance for someone in Rwanda when purchased.
Purchases of other products in our shop don’t directly fund the giveback, but they help support our small business, cover operating costs, and allow us to keep the mission going.
For every product we personally make in house at Misiyo, whether it’s a candle, reed diffuser, room & linen spray or essential oil blend, we provide ONE MONTH of health insurance for someone in need in Rwanda when that product is purchased. It’s built into the heart of our business; a one-for-one model we've had from the start.
Our roots are connected to Rwanda through personal relationships and past work. It’s a place that means a lot to us, and where even small efforts can make a life-changing difference in access to care. Visit our Giveback page to learn more.
We partner with a local non-profit in Rwanda, the Irere Foundation, to find the people who are in need of coverage and then we fund the coverage through Rwanda’s national public health care system, which includes access to doctors, hospitals, and essential medications.
It’s ongoing. We commit to providing full annual coverage (12 months) for each individual we support, not just a short one-time gesture. Our goal is sustainable, long-term impact.
We are also working on some new blogs in order to share their stories—coming soon!

Essential Oil Blends
Yes. They’re made with pure, undiluted essential oils. No carrier oils, no fillers—just clean, high-quality botanicals.
Add a few drops to a diffuser, ceramic oil stone, dryer balll or bowl of warm water to naturally scent your space. They’re perfect for creating a calm, cozy environment throughout your home.
No, they are not safe to apply directly on your skin. Our essential oil blends are not diluted and thus are not intended for topical use (which goes for all pure essential oils). Always keep them away from skin, eyes, and pets. If you do want to apply them topically, a safe dilution rate would be 1%–2% into a carrier oil. Please use caution and discontinue use if any irritation occurs.
We carry skin-safe wearable essential oil blends in our boutique - find those here
We don’t recommend it. Because these are pure oils, they won’t disperse safely in water and could irritate the skin. Stick to diffusing for best results.
Essential oils can affect pets and little ones differently. Always exercise caution, use in a well-ventilated area and consult your vet or healthcare provider if you have concerns.
