Why We Use Premium Fragrances in Our Candles (And Not Just Essential Oils)
At Misiyo, we believe that what you breathe in matters just as much as what you put on your skin. That’s why most of our candles are scented using only phthalate-free, paraben-free fragrance oils and select essential oils.
You might be wondering: why not just use essential oils?
1. Some Essential Oils Aren’t Safe to Burn
While essential oils are natural, not all of them are safe for high-heat applications like candle burning, and especially in beeswax (which has a higher burn temperature than other waxes). Oils like cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, or citrus can become toxic or irritating when burned, releasing compounds that aren’t safe to inhale. Some can even cause respiratory sensitivities when used incorrectly.
We only use select essential oils and combine them with clean, expertly formulated fragrance oils that are designed to burn safely, evenly, and beautifully.

2. More Scent Diversity (Without the Headaches)
Using only essential oils would mean a very limited scent library (mostly herbal or earthy scents ) and many wouldn’t have much hot throw, which is the scent you smell while the candle is burning. By thoughtfully blending clean fragrance oils with essential oils, we can offer bright, fruity, floral, and cozy complex scents without compromising on safety or quality.
Many people also find that traditional synthetic fragrances give them headaches. We get it. That’s why all our fragrances are carefully vetted to be free from known irritants like phthalates and parabens so you can breathe easy.
3. We Value Clean Ingredients
Our candles are:

- Paraben-free (no skin or respiratory irritants)
- Hand-poured in small batches with clean, mindful ingredients
